Reimbursement for House Hunting and Destination Inspection Trips

Are you a CAF member who is relocating to a new posting? If so, you may be entitled to reimbursement for your house hunting trip and destination inspection trip. The CAFRD Chapter 4 outlines the specific reimbursements that you are eligible for.



House Hunting Trip

A house hunting trip is a trip that you take to your new posting to find a place to live. You are entitled to reimbursement for the cost of travel, accommodation, meals, and incidental expenses for yourself and your dependants.

  •   - Travel costs: The cost of transportation to and from your new posting, including the cost of airfare, train tickets, or gas.
  •   - Accommodation costs: The cost of hotel or rental accommodation for yourself and your dependants.
  •   - Meals: The cost of meals for yourself and your dependants.
  •   - Incidental expenses: The cost of incidental expenses such as parking, taxis, and laundry.



Destination Inspection Trip

A destination inspection trip is a trip that you take to your new posting to inspect the area and make sure that it is a good fit for you and your family. You are entitled to reimbursement for the cost of travel, accommodation, meals, and incidental expenses for yourself only.

  •   - Travel costs: The cost of transportation to and from your new posting, including the cost of airfare, train tickets, or gas.
  •   - Accommodation costs: The cost of hotel or rental accommodation for yourself only.
  •   - Meals: The cost of meals for yourself only.
  •   - Incidental expenses: The cost of incidental expenses such as parking, taxis, and laundry.



How to Apply for Reimbursement

To apply for reimbursement, you will need to submit a claim to the CAF. The claim form can be found on the CAF website. The claim form must be completed in full and must include all of the required documentation.

The required documentation includes:

  •   - Your posting message.
  •   - Proof of travel costs.
  •   - Proof of accommodation costs.
  •   - Proof of meal costs.
  •   - Proof of incidental expenses.



Once you have submitted your claim, it will be reviewed by the CAF. The CAF will approve or deny your claim within 60 days.


If your claim is approved, you will be reimbursed for the eligible expenses. The reimbursement will be paid directly to you.
