The base
14 Wing Greenwood is Canada’s “East Coast Super Wing” – the largest Royal Canadian Air Force base east of Trenton - focused on long range patrol as well as search & rescue. It is primarily operated as an air force base by the Royal Canadian Air Force and is one of two bases in the country using the CP-140 Aurora and CP-140A Arcturus anti-submarine/maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft. Its primary RCAF lodger unit is 14 Wing, commonly referred to as 14 Wing Greenwood.
The town
Greenwood is a village located in the western part of Kings County in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. During the 1970s-2000s, the village of Greenwood expanded in population as numerous other air force bases in eastern Canada closed and their aircraft and personnel consolidated at CFB Greenwood. Today, the village and base’s combined population is approximately 4,500. The village hosts numerous services and is also the location of the Greenwood Mall, the largest shopping centre in the western part of the Annapolis Valley.
